Objective

Made for a client who prefers to remain unnamed: a vertical short that proves AI production can carry period atmosphere and readable martial-arts action in under a minute.

The creative challenge

Keeping two fighters identical across some thirty AI-generated shots, and making fast martial-arts action read clearly in a narrow 9:16 frame, in one day.

Audience

Martial-arts film fans and vertical-video audiences.

Constraints

59 seconds, 9:16, framed inside the Reels and Shorts safe area. No dialogue; the only text on screen is the Leopati AI Film mark. Produced in one day.

Creative direction

Bruce Lee AI short film: face-off in the ringAI generated

A 1970s fight arena is packed to the rafters; an empty wooden chair waits in the ring. Bruce Lee sits among the spectators, watching. His opponent, in orange, takes the ring, and he steps through the ropes to meet her. Her kicks come fast; he reads them, guards and waits. One close-up, one strike. She goes down, and he holds his stance as the crowd rises.

A homage to the martial-arts films of the 1970s: a fight that reads in a single look, staged for the phone screen.

Bruce Lee films taught a generation how a fight should read on screen: clear, fast, no wasted motion. We wanted to see whether an AI short could hold that discipline in 59 vertical seconds, one arena, one opponent, one decisive moment.

Güneş Polater, director’s statement

Visual style

1970s film-stock colour: warm skin, green-grey concrete, hard white floodlights and a crowd in period shirts.

Cinematography and camera language

A high wide shot of the arena, then crowd close-ups at eye level. The fight stays at ring height in medium shots so the footwork reads; an extreme close-up holds the breath before the strike, and a low angle closes on the final stance.

How it was made

Bruce Lee AI short film: Muay Thai fighter attacksAI generated

Created with generative AI · directed, edited and finished by people

Reference stills for both fighters and the arena were generated and locked first; every moving shot was then generated from them, and only takes with clean silhouettes and readable contact made the cut.

What was human, what was generated

Story, direction, shot selection, fight editing, sound design, colour and finishing were done by people (Güneş Polater and the Leopati team). Every frame was generated with AI: references with GPT Image, video through Higgsfield with Seedance and Kling. Music is licensed library music; crowd, impacts and applause were designed by Leopati.

Prompt approach

References first: GPT Image produced character sheets for both fighters and the arena, and the approved sheets were locked. Every shot in Higgsfield started from those sheets, using Seedance and Kling by shot type, so costumes, faces and the ring stay the same from the first frame to the last.

The arena
1970s martial arts arena, packed tiered crowd in period shirts, floodlit ring with white ropes, empty wooden chair, 35mm film colour, vertical 9:16
Face-off
kung fu fighter in white henley and black trousers faces a Muay Thai fighter in orange satin shorts, ring-level medium shot, hard top light
Before the strike
extreme close-up, sweat, focused eyes, shallow depth of field, crowd blurred behind, 1970s film grain

Excerpts, trimmed, in the language they were written in.

Problems and solutions

  1. Problem Two fighters had to look the same across some thirty separately generated shots.

Solution Both were locked in reference sheets and every shot was generated from them; takes that drifted were left out.

  2. Problem Fast kicks and blocks blur easily in AI video and stop reading in a narrow frame.

Solution Short shots at ring height, takes with clean silhouettes, and cuts placed on the moment of contact.
